DEATHS.
During 1952 the gross number of deaths registered in the borough
was 517.
The number of transferable deaths was as follows
Deaths of non-residents registered in Shoreditch, 172
Deaths of Shoreditch residents registered elsewhere, 214,
The number of deaths which must be debited to Shoreditch is
accordingly 559 which gives a nett death rate of 12 20 per 1,000 population.
In connection with these deaths 22 inquests were held The death rate
for England & Wales was 11.3 and for London 12.6 Altogether 368 or 65.8
per cent of the people belonging to Shoreditch who died during the year,
died in public institutions.
The table on page 9 showing causes of deaths at all ages has been
supplied by the Registrar-General.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The deaths of infants under one year numbered 23, of which 12 were
males These deaths amounted to 4.11 per cent of the total net Shoreditoh
deaths from all causes as compared with 2.16 per cent in 1951. The
infantile mortality rate (death rate of infants under 1 year per 1,000
live births) for Shoreditch was 27 74, the rate for England & Wales being
27.6 and for London 23.8. Two illegitimate infants died.
The number of deaths of infants under 4 weeks of age registered during
the year was 13, which gives a neo-natal mortality rate of 15.68.
