The ratio of non-notified tuberculosis deaths to total tuberculosis deaths for the
year 1938 was 1 to 14.
The figures for the new cases are the number of formal notifications and of the
cases which came to the notice of the Medical Officer of Health otherwise than by
formal notification. These figures, therefore, represent the most accurate record
of the incidence of the disease during the year.
INSTITUTIONAL ACCOMMODATION FOR TUBERCULOSIS
Institutional treatment of this disease is carried out at sanatoria, the majority
of which are now under the control of the London County Council. The following
table shows the number of admissions and discharges according to the intimations
of admissions and discharges received from these sanatoria and from other institutions
during the year 1938:—
