MARRIAGES
The number of marriages during the year was 871, and the marriage rate was
21.18 per 1,000 population. The marriage rate for the Metropolis was 2109.
During recent years the corresponding figures were as follows:—

It will be seen that the general increase of the marriage rate, which was noted in
the report for last year, is being maintained.
DEATHS
During 1937 the gross number of deaths registered in the Borough was 1,165.
The transferable deaths were as follows:—
Deaths of non.residents registered in Shoreditch 389
Deaths of Shoreditch residents registered elsewhere 250
The number of deaths which must be debited to Shoreditch is accordingly 1,026,
which figure gives a net death rate of 12.47 per 1,000 population. In connection with
these deaths 67 inquests were held. The death rate for England and Wales for 1937
was 12.4 and for London 12.5.
