constructed van takes the furniture and effects, other than bedding and soft goods,
to the yard adjoining the Council's disinfecting station. The furniture is disinfested
by the hydrogen cyanide method by a firm of private contractors under the supervision
of one of the sanitary inspectors who has specialized in this type of work. The
bedding and soft goods are disinfested by steam at the disinfecting station. The
removal and disinfestation is thus completed on the same day.
The number of families moving to or transferring in the Council's flats during
the year was 99. During the year the Council also supervised the work of disinfestation
by the cyanide method of 15 Shoreditch families who were moved to a block of
flats erected in the Borough by the Shoreditch Housing Association. It is the
practice for the rooms vacated by persons moving into this Council's flats to be dealt
with by sanitary notice when necessary.
All other cases of bug infestation are dealt with by sanitary notice. In many
instances the bedding, etc., is subjected to steam and the tenants offered the use of a
pneumatic hand spray containing D solution.
