MERCHANDISE MARKS ACT, 1926, ORDERS
General observation was kept of all stalls and shops in the Borough where
foodstuffs scheduled under these Orders were exposed for sale.
PREMISES FOR PREPARATION AND SALE OF FOOD STUFFS
STREET MARKETS
The street markets were kept under observation in the evenings and on Sunday
mornings in accordance with arrangements approved by this Committee.
MEAT
The number of butchers' premises under inspection during the year was 54 shops
and 8 stores and the number of visits of inspection was 171.
General observation was kept of all meat stalls where butchers' meat was exposed
for sale. No warning letters were sent in respect of minor infringements of the
Public Health (Meat) Regulations, 1924.
SLAUGHTER HOUSES
There are no slaughter houses in the Borough.
COW HOUSES
There is one licensed cow house in the Borough, in St. John's Road, licensed for
14 cows.
COOKSHOPS AND EATING HOUSES
Including the kitchens of public houses where food is prepared for customers,
the number of these under inspection during the year was 231, and 417 visits were
made in connection with them. Sanitary notices were served on 45 owners mainly
for cleansing.
FRIED FISH SHOPS
At the end of the year 47 fried fish shops were under the supervision of the
Health Department, and 184 visits were made to them.
ICE CREAM
The number of premises under observation during the year was 191, and 287
visits of inspection were made. In 17 instances sanitary notices were served. Most
of these were for general cleansing.
At the end of the year the number on the register was 185.
