amounted to 3.4 per cent for all births credited to the Borough during the
year.
The number of births occurring in St. Leonard's Hospital was 385:
178 males and 207 females. In 37 of these the parents were not Shoreditch
residents.
This is the lowest birth rate so far recorded in the Borough, the previous
low record being that of 1931 when the birth rate was 171.
There has been a general decline in the birth rate during recent years'
and the rate recorded in Shoreditch for 1933 is the highest of any London
Borough.
MARRIAGES.
The number of marriages during the year was 858, and the persons
married were at the rate of 18.34 per 1,000 population. The marriage rate
for the Metropolis was 18.94.

During 1933 the total number of deaths registered in the Borough was
1,153.
