At the time of writing arrangements have been made to open a Centre
at Haggerston Mission Hall on Thursday afternoon, to serve the needs of
District No. 3. Hitherto two doctors have attended Harbour Lights, one
seeing the mothers and children from District No. 1, and the other those from
District No. 3. Consequent upon the reorganization of the Health Visitors
Districts the attendance of mothers from No. 1 District at Harbour Lights
was discontinued and only one Doctor now attends this Centre.
Particulars of attendances at the Centres are given in the table on page
135. Approximately 80 per cent of all infants under one year of age visited the
Centres during the year. The average number of attendances made was 157.
Educational work at the Centres continued throughout the year A
special feature was made of talks and demonstrations upon dietetics, these
being held not only in the Welfare Centre but frequently in the various halls
in which Centres are held throughout the Borough.
As in previous years Miss Mould, the Dental Hygienist, gave talks and
demonstrations upon the need for dental care.
National Parentcraft Competition.
In the last Report mention was made of the fact that the Shoreditch
Centres had entered the National Parentcraft Competition. A further entry
made in 1933 met with the highly gratifying result that the Shoreditch
Municipal Maternity and Child Welfare Centres won Dr. Eric Pritchard's
Special Prize for the best medical and health visiting records.
