its special purpose. The present accommodation is a great improvement upon
the old both for patients and for the staff, and it is a matter for satisfaction
that this important work is now being carried out under first rate conditions.
Miss Mould, the Dental Hygienist, for whose services we have to thank
the Hon. Arthur Villiers, continued her work throughout the year. Miss
Mould submits the following brief summary of her work: —
"During the early part of 1933, under the direction of Dr. McGregor,
1 carried out an inspection of the teeth of 300 children between the ages of
3 and 9 years. This meant visiting the homes in order to see the children.
From January—October, 80 mothers had their teeth scaled. Since then
I have not done the scalings.
"In October, Health Week was held. Dr. McGregor and helper
organized a Toddlers' Revue which was performed during Health Week. I
assisted in this work by arranging for some children to sing and give a
demonstration on how to clean their teeth.
"The remainder of my time has been spent in the Dental Hospital, under
the direction of the Sister, helping in the general work of the Hospital."
Cards for the attention of children leaving school which were first
introduced during .1930, continued to be distributed throughout the year.
This card is in the following terms:—
"Shoreditch Borough Council.
"The Care of the Teeth.
"To children leaving school.
"While you have been at school your teeth have been looked after for
you. Now that you are leaving school you must make your own arrangements.
Unless you do so, it is likely that your teeth will decay and your
general health suffer.
"In order that the good work done at school may continue, you should
place yourself under the care of a dental surgeon.
"Treatment can be obtained from any dental surgeon, of whom there
are several in Shoreditch, or at the Municipal Dental Hospital,
8/14, Laburnum Street, E.2."
Thanks are due to Mr. S. H. Coplans who has held the post of acting
Dental Surgeon from the resignation referred to above until the present time,
for his assistance and co-operation in regard to all matters relating to the
administration of the hospital.
