It will be noted that the foregoing includes an exhibit and lectures on the subject
of Birth Control. This inclusion was followed a few weeks later by an important
resolution on the subject. At the meeting of the Borough Council held on 19th
November it was resolved unanimously:-
"That this Council recognises that the question of family limitation is
one to be settled by the individuals concerned.
"It further recognises, however, that a demand exists among workingclass
married women for reliable and private information as to methods of
family limitation, and places on record its opinion that such married women
should not be prevented by lack of means from obtaining the help they desire.
It therefore calls upon the Ministry of Health to allow those Municipalities
who wish to do so to provide facilities for such information through the
public services.
"Copies of this resolution to be sent to all Municipal Authorities throughout
the country, with a request for support, to the Ministry of Health, the
Prime Minister and the local Member of Parliament and to the Press."
