General observation was kept of all stalls and shops in the Borough where fresh
apples were exposed for sale. Fifty-eight warning letters were sent in respect of
minor infringements. These proved effective and no further action was necessary.
MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
Report by Dr. James Fanning, Assistant Medical Officer of Health.
The notified live births numbered 1,953 and there were in addition 53 still
births. Of the notifications 1,016 were received from registered midwives practising
in the Borough.
The outlines of the Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme were described in the
Annual Report for 1928, and there has been no fundamental change during the
year under consideration, although a number of new activities have been instituted.
