and summonses, 4,422 letters, cards and other communications on matters under
the Public Health and Sale of Food and Drugs Acts, 151 in connection with the
work under the Factory and Workshops Acts, 7,716 on various matters connected
with infectious disease, verminous cases and disinfection, and some 1,560 agendas
and reports relative to the work of the department. In addition there were some
11,535 forms, milk books and cards, 7,490 letters and other communications, and
4,032 agendas, reports and other documents relating to the work under the Maternity
and Child Welfare Committee, which were despatched during the course of the
year. Altogether the number was just over 44,000, somewhat less than for last
year, the decrease being mainly dtie to a falling off in the number of applications for
milk.
I have again to express my satisfaction with the way in which the various
members of the staff have discharged their duties and my recognition of the assistance
they have given, and also to acknowledge the valuable help rendered by the Assistant
Medical Officer of Health and the Senior Inspector in the work of safeguarding the
health of the people of Shoreditch during the year.
I desire also to thank the Mayor, the Chairman and members respectively of the
Health and Maternity and Child Welfare Committees, and the members of the Borough
Council generally for their kind consideration and help in connection with the work
of the year.
I have the honour to be,
Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
LEWIS T. FRASER BRYETT,
Medical Officer of Health.
