CONDENSED MILK REGULATIONS.
Four samples of condensed, two of which were full cream sweetened, one full
cream unsweetened and one skimmed sweetened were submitted for analyses.
They were all reported by the Public Analyst to be genuine.
MILK AND DAIRIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1922.
At the end of 1923 one person was on the register as licensed to sell certified milk.
During 1924 three others were added, two for certified milk and one for Grade A
tuberculin tested milk.
COOK-SHOPS AND EATING-HOUSES.
Including the kitchens of public-houses where food is prepared for customers 175
were under inspection during the year and some 511 visits were made in connection
with them. The sanitary notices served numbered 73 including 61 which were
mainly for cleansing. Other matters requiring attention were defective drains and
waterclosets, defective roofs and defective dust receptacles.
FRIED-FISH SHOPS.
Some 57 were under inspection in connection with which 23 sanitary notices
were served, 10 being mainly for general cleansing. Some 302 visits of inspection
were made.
ICE CREAM SHOPS.
There were 127 under observation during the year and 293 visits of inspection
were made in connection with them. Twenty-nine sanitary notices were served
mostly for general cleansing.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS.
The reports of the Public Analyst, Mr. H. G. Harrison, M.A., show that 1,051
samples were submitted to him during the year. This number is at the rate of 9.9
per 1,000 inhabitants, and is above the average for recent years.
