Tuberculosis.
There were 192 cases notified, 95 of these were under 16 years, 41 over 50
years, and 28 under 12 months ; 21 only were insured persons.
Of the cases, 124 were certified as suffering from tuberculosis of the lungs,
and the remainder from tuberculosis of joints, glands, skin, bowels, &c.
Six were sent to Sanatoria by the Insurance Commissioners, 3 to private
sanatoria, 22 were admitted to homes or hospitals, and 43 to the Infirmary.
Increasing care is taken by relatives to prevent the spread of infection from
this disease, although want of space in the dwellings still renders it almost
impossible.
I have again pleasure in thanking Miss Tucker of the East London Workers'
Society for valuable help given in all cases referred to her, especially those in
which nourishment has been needed for expectant and nursing mothers.
Thanks are also due to the Committee OI the National Relief Fund for the
extra milk which was granted to applicants where there were infants under
12 months, and to other societies and agencies which have contributed help or
information.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
MAUDE E. JACOCKS,
Health Visitor,
