being given. This table also gives the nett deaths and births daring the year
amongst legitimate and illegitimate infants. Comparison with the table for 1913
shows that the decrease in the infantile mortality for 1914 is mainly the result of
decreases in the numbers of deaths from atrophy, debility and marasmus,
pneumonia, diarrhoea and enteritis. There were increases in the numbers of
deaths from measles and whooping cough.

In the subjoined table the causes of death amongst infants under one year for each of the eight Wards of the Borough are given:—
