One instance of a return case of diphtheria was noted:—John T-, aged 4,
returned from hospital after 62 days therein, on February 17th ; William T-,
aged 2½, of the same address, was taken ill on March 1st, and certified on
March 3rd.
SMALLPOX.
There were no cases of smallpox in Shoreditch during the year, and only
about 3 cases were certified in the whole of London.
VACCINATION.
The last official figures as to vaccination in the Borough are those published
with the report of the Medical Officer of the Local Government Board for 1913-14,
and relate to the year 1912. Of the births registered during that year, in 34.0 per
cent. vaccination was successfully performed and 35.0 per cent. were not finally
accounted for, the latter figure including postponed cases. Altogether 55.8 per cent.
of the children whose births were registered in 1912 were unvaccinated at the end
of the year. The last figure includes those exempted by conscientious objection
certificates, which numbered 710 or 20'6 per cent. of the births registered as compared
with 13.1 in 1911, 12.6 per cent. in 1910, 6.8 per cent. in 1909, 4.7 per cent.
in 1908, 2.1 per cent. in 1907, 0.7 in 1906, 0.8 in 1905, 0.5 in 1904, 0.6 in 1903 and
0.3 in 1902.
