599 under that of Inspector Lear, 540 under Inspector Firth, 757 Inspector Jordan,
528 Inspector Langstone, and 569 under Inspector Pearson, In connection with
the work arising out of these notices 932 letters were sent to owners of property,
builders, and other parties concerned. Some 27,700 visits of inspection were made
during the year, exclusive of those made by the Medical Officer of Health and
Chief Sanitary Inspector. The premises inspected included milks hops, cowsheds,
slaughter-houses, cookshops and eating-houses, factories, workshops, outworkers'
premises, and others, including dwelling-houses and tenement buildings (Appendix).
In the subjoined table is contained a summary giving an idea as to the nature of the work done for the abatement of nuisances and for improving the dwellings of the people in Shoreditch, which has been compiled from the abstracts of their work prepared by the sanitary inspectors:—
