(c) when the lesions are confined to the pharyngeal lymphatic glands, and (d) when the
lesions are confined to any combination of the foregoing but are collectively small in
extent.
With respect to tuberculous meat in Shoreditch it may be remarked that, owing to
the great bulk of the meat consumed in the Borough which is liable to be infected
with tuberculosis, being slaughtered elsewhere than in Shoreditch and being sub
ject to examination before it reaches: the Borough, it is only very rarely that
meat suspected of being tuberculous comes under observation. There
is no record of a tuberculous carcase having been found exposed for sale or in a place
under conditions giving rise to the supposition that it was intended for sale for the
food of man during recent years in Shoreditch.

The samples included 365 of milk, 181 butter, 20 lard, 8 coffee, 6 seidlitz powder,
5 cheese, 4 cocoa, 4 pepper, 2 jam, 2 whisky, 2 flour, 2 arrowroot, 2 dripping, 2 brandy,
2 cod liver oil, 1 milk and water, 1 margarine, 1 tea, 1 mustard and 1 of almond oil.
Of the milk samples 86 or 23.5 per cent. were found not to be genuine as compared
with 22.0 per cent. for 1903. This increase in the percentage of adulteration has taken
place notwithstanding there were 20 more samples taken in 1904 than in 1903. In the
