Of 434 persons belonging to Shoreditch dying in public institutions situate beyond
the limits of the Borough, 286 died in general hospitals including 68 in hospitals
for children; 30 died in the fever hospitals of the Metropolitan Asylums Board; 75 died
in asylums; 12 in hospitals for special diseases; 24 in workhouses and infirmaries and
7 in other institutions. Elsewhere than in public institutions 16 persons belonging to
Shoreditch died beyond the limits of the Borough. Altogether 879 persons belonging
to Shoreditch died in public institutions. Including the sixteen persons who did not die
in public institutions 895 persons belonging to the Borough died elsewhere than in their
homes.
SICKNESS AMONGST THE POOR.
The number of cases of illness coming under the treatment of the district medical
officers in connection with the public dispensary shows a marked increase on the figures
