Maternal Mortality
It is pleasing to report that for the second year in succession
no maternal deaths occurred in the Borough.
The maternal mortality rate for Greater London for 1967 was
0.33 per 1,000 total live and still births, and England and Wales
0.20.
Tuberculosis
There were ten deaths attributed to pulmonary tuberculosis
and one from non-respiratory tuberculosis, giving a death rate of
0.04 per 1,000 population.
Street Accidents
1,656 street accidents occurred in the Borough during 1967.
2,317 persons were injured and 33 died. These totals include 395
children under 15 years of age who were injured, and 3 who died.
Infant Mortality
There were 74 deaths of infants under one year during 1967.
67 of these were legitimate and 7 illegitimate, giving a rate of 16
per 1,000 total births. The rates for Greater London and England
and Wales were 18.4 and 18.3 respectively.
Of the 74 infant deaths, 49 were under four weeks old, giving
a neonatal mortality rate of 10.8 per 1,000 total live births. The
neonatal mortality rate for Greater London was 12.9 and for
England and Wales 12.5. There were 38 deaths of infants under
1 week of age, giving an early neonatal mortality rate of 8.4 per
1,000 total live births. The rates for Greater London and England
and Wales were 11.1 and 10.8. The perinatal mortality rate for the
Borough (stillbirths and deaths under one week combined, per
1,000 total live and still births) was 22, and those for Greater
London and England and Wales 24.2 and 25.4 respectively.
