INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS
Independent Schools, which so desire, have continued to
participate in the School Health Service. At present 18 such
schools take advantage of the facilities provided by the Service.
Subject to their parents' consent pupils attending these schools
receive routine medical inspections (at the same ages as children
attending maintained schools), and also have the advantage of
access, where necessary, to the specialist clinics. Arrangements
are also made as an when necessary for the special examination of
any child.
During the year 1,129 children were medically inspected, and
a further 169 children received tests of vision and hearing only.
In addition, a total of 15 special inspections and 84 re-inspections
were carried out.
