WELFARE OF OLD PEOPLE.
Reports received on the various homes run by voluntary
associations and public authorities are as follow:—
These homes are run by the Welfare Department of the London County Council and the following details have been furnished by the Chief Officer of that Department:—

A new house. "Boscobel," Denbridge Road, Bickley, which is
adjacent to "The Vane," will be opened shortly and will accommodate
23 residents.

The North West Kent Housing Society. Limited (Homes for
the Aged), run this home and the Secretary has kindly furnished
the following information:—
There is nothing new to report for the year 1955. The Home
has fulfilled its task and provided accommodation for thirty-six old
people, including one married couple and ten other men throughout
the year. It is of interest to note that six of the residents are now
over ninety; one attains her century in April next year.

This report has been furnished by the General Secretary. Brook
Lane Medical Mission:—
The number of beds available in the home is twenty-two.
During 1955, we have lost two residents by death, and one who
became more infirm, was moved to another home. Three old
ladies, living alone and in need of some care and attention, have
been admitted during the year.
Miss Flora Miller, one of the residents who has been with us
for a long time, reached the age of one hundred years in September,
and spent a very happy birthday in the home with relations and
friends. She was thrilled to receive a message from Her Majesty
the Queen, also from the Rt. Hon. Sir Winston Churchill.
In October, the residents went to Brighton for two weeks, to a
home there, while the Greenhill kitchen was made larger, and other
improvements made. The balcony is being re-built and enlarged,
