5. Youth Activities.
The programme of activities connected with Youth Service has
of necessity followed the pattern of the previous year, owing to the
limited financial provision available for recreative purposes. The
demand for facilities for football, cricket, netball and tennis for
those clubs interested in developing team games has been consistent.
Alternatively, individuals and small groups have a wealth of choice
of outdoor activities both within the Borough and in its environs.
Walking, cycling, camping and Youth Hostelling retain their
popularity.
6. Adult Classes.
Classes in Folk Dancing and Keep Fit activities have been
arranged and held successfully throughout the year.
7. Conclusion.
The past year has been one of growing appreciation of the
value of most aspects of Physical Education. It is hoped that this
good feeling and interest will be carried forward by school leavers
into youth and adult life, so that the excellent groundwork in the
schools will be the basis of a sound development later. It should
be possible for every boy and girl leaving school to have discovered
some appropriate aspect of physical activity in which he or she has
special interest or aptitude.
Many visitors from local authorities, training colleges and from
overseas, interested in Physical Education, have visited the schools
during the year.
The Advisers wish to record their appreciation of the support
of the Borough Education Officer and his Staff and of the cooperation
of the Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers in the
schools.
