we shall have learned a lesson which will be carried into the home,
the food shop, the canteen, etc., with beneficial results to all.
Particularly is this so in the case of the children who are of the
right age to form new habits which they will carry on throughout
their lives and pass on to succeeding generations.
It is usual in reports such as these to give lengthy and
incredibly dull dissertations on vital statistics, but 1 am proposing
to be unusual and merely say that they are in all respects eminently
satisfactory.
Any other matters which may be of interest have been
annotated in the body of this report which can be referred to by
those seeking for more detailed information.
There only remains for me the very pleasant task of thanking
the Committee for their indulgence and help in the past and of
expressing my gratitude to the staff of the department for their
unfailing loyalty and devotion to duty. Perhaps I may be forgiven
for mentioning by name two particular stalwarts—Mr. Woods,
who always gives of his time and energy so unstintingly. and Mr.
Judd who. in addition to his many other duties, year after year
does many hours of devoted work in the compilation of this report,
but to all a very sincere and heartfelt " thank you " for a good
year's work well done.
I am,
Your obedient Servant,
H. B. C. CARTER-LOCKE,
May, 1955. Medical Officer of Health
