Once again I should like to express my appreciation and
thanks for the assistance given by the hospitals and the General
Practitioners. The close liaison which exists between them and
this Department has done much in the build-up of the school
health service.
DENTAL SERVICE.
The modernisation and re-equiping of the Dental Clinic at
Princes Plain was completed and the clinic re-opened on 4th June.
1953.
The services of a part-time Dental Surgeon were obtained
during August, 1953. thus bringing up to full strength the dental
establishment.
North Clinic.
Mr. King reports:—
"The improved and more comprehensive dental service
visualised a year ago has materialised.
Outstanding progress has been made during 1953, this being
the result of more frequent routine dental inspections at the
schools. A considerably smaller number of serious defects is now
encountered.
Every child in the maintained schools allocated to the clinic
has been inspected and, where parental consent has been given,
treatment carried out during the past fourteen months. In future
it is hoped that all children will be examined and treated at least
once every year.
Orthodontic treatment is being undertaken on a much larger
scale and parents realise to a greater extent the importance of this
branch of dentistry. Co-operation of both parent and child is
being much more readily obtained.
Considerable demand is made upon the Maternity and Child
Welfare facilities provided, and all who presented themselves for
treatment were restored to dental fitness.
In August. Mr. A. B. Grantley Smith was appointed part-time
Dental Surgeon and is rendering valuable help, especially in the
treatment of the Grammar School children. He attends four
sessions weekly.
We extend our grateful thanks to the Radiologists and staff
of Bromley Hospital for their willing co-operation and help during
1953.
Statistical details of inspections and treatments will be found
in the Tables at the end of the main report."
South Clinic, Princes Plain.
Mrs. Lindsay reports:—

Princes Plain has added materially towards the aim of providing
