PETROLEUM (REGULATION) ACTS, 1928 AND 1936.
Mr. G. R. Woods is the Inspector appointed under the above
Acts.
Ninety-five licences were issued to store Petroleum Spirits and
Petroleum Mixtures, and one for Carbide of Calcium.
The total storage capacity licensed during the year ending
31st March, 1954, was:—
Bulk Storage 117,980 gallons.
Can Storage 2,109 gallons.
Carbide of Calcium 300 lbs.
93 visits of inspection were made in connection with this
work. Two contraventions were found and these were remedied
immediately.
A number of the new flame-proof electrically operated pumps
were installed in lieu of the old pattern and the electrical wiring
carried out in accordance with the Home Office Regulations.
No accident has been reported during the year occasioned by
the storage of Petroleum Spirit.
VERMINOUS CONDITIONS AND UNCLEANLINESS.
24 visits to premises by Sanitary Inspectors related to eradication
of bugs, dirty conditions and disinfestations.
Six nuisances were found. During the year ten nuisances were
abated (including those carried over from 1952). The very few
cases of vermin infestation found in connection with the Council's
Housing Estates were successfully dealt with.
The continued low incidence of verminous conditions and
unclcanliness is a source of gratification, especially when one considers
the housing conditions under which many people arc living.
PREVENTION OF DAMAGE BY PESTS ACT, 1949.
