There was an outbreak of Food Poisoning at one of the
schools within the area, and, although only one case was notified
as being under the care of a doctor, some ninety-four cases were
ascertained as having occurred. After full investigation both at
the school and at the homes of the persons concerned, and many
specimens of foodstuffs, faeces, etc., had been submitted to the
laboratory for examination, the cause of the infection was traced
to the presence of Clostridium Welchii in Sausage Meat.
