"Four residents died during the year, three at the Club, and
one at Southend whilst visiting his brother-in-law. Three
residents went away for periods of convalescence, and then
returned to the Club. One resident who was removed to hospital
was not fit enough to return, and one left to go into a Nursing
Home.
"We have a long waiting list, and have been able to accept
nine persons for residence—three men, one married couple, and
five women."
"The Vane," Denbridge Road.
The London County Council is the responsible authority for
this Home, which has accommodation for 29 residents (4 for men
and 25 for women).
There were 29 residents on 31st December, 1948, 14 admissions
during 1949, and 14 discharges.
This Home is run by the Welfare Department of the London
County Council, and is used as a home for aged Londoners needing
care and attention not otherwise available to them.
"Town Court," Wells Road, Bickley.
This Home has recently been purchased by the London
County Council for use as a home for the aged. It was opened
on 23rd June, 1949, with accommodation for 18 persons (7 men
and 11 women), but when adaptation works are completed the
ultimate accommodation will be for 31 persons, including married
couples. Up to 31st December, 1949, 18 persons had been admitted
and none discharged.
"Greenhill," Oaklands Road, Bromley.
This Home, which is run by the Brook Lane Medical Mission,
was opened in April, 1949, and the first nine patients were
admitted on the 11th of that month. There are 20 beds for
patients, all of which have been filled throughout the year.
During the summer months some of the old people were
able to go away for holidays, either to relatives or to the Mission
Rest House at Brighton, which enabled the Mission to take in
other old people in need for short periods.
"Merevale," Bickley Park Road, Bickley.
The following report has been received from the Secretary
of the North-West Kent Housing Society, Ltd., who are responsible
for this Home:—
"The year 1949 was a successful year for 'Merevale.' We
commenced the year with 29 residents, but rearranged the
accommodation early in the year to accommodate 34 persons.
