SECTION B.
SUMMARY OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE AREA.
Health Services Rendered by the Council.
Sanitary and Environmental Services.
These services, which are the major services of the Health
Department, are reported upon fully under Sections C, D, E
and F.
A summary of the year's work is given in the appendices.
Inspection of Nursing Homes.
There are four registered Nursing Homes within the Borough,
and fifteen visits of inspection were made during the year.
There were no infringements of the Local Byelaws.

Details of these homes, at 31st December, 1949, are given below:—

The Nursing Homes are not utilised to their full extent,
partly due to the National Health Act, and also to the fact that
people are no longer able to pay the fees of Private Nursing
Homes.
There is still a large number of aged sick who are awaiting
admission to hospital, and for whom the Nursing Homes could
provide the necessary attention pending such admission, but as
most of these cases come within the low income group, there are
no means for meeting the cost.
Services Rendered by the Hospital Board.
(a) Bromley Hospital, providing a general hospital service
with 155 beds. This Hospital also has two Maternity Units, at
118, Widmore Road (22 beds), and 20, Masons Hill (38 beds).
(b) Lennard Hospital, Lennard Road, with 212 (possible)
beds, of which 62 are for the isolation and treatment of
infectious diseases.
(c) Bromley Chest Clinic, 2, Park Road. New pre-fabricated
premises are at present under construction at Masons Hill,
Bromley, and, when, completed, will provide long overdue and
up-to-date premises for this branch of the Health Service.
