SCHOOL HYGIENE.
The rebuilding of the bomb damaged Princes Plain County
Modern School was completed during the year, and the school
reopened in the autumn term, 1948. 282 pupils are now attending
this school, the reopening of which has to some extent
alleviated the overcrowded condition of other schools within the
area.
With the exception of the temporary school premises of
Bickley and Widmore Church of England Primary School, and
the Parish Church of England Primary School, College Road,
which are far below standard, the cleanliness and hygiene of
Bromley schools has been maintained. Long delayed plans are
under consideration for a complete new system of lavatories at
the Bromley Parish C.E. School to replace the present system,
and it is hoped that this work will be undertaken during 1949.
Replacement of the obsolete type of water closets at the Valley
County Primary School has been carried out, and it is hoped that
the remainder of the lavatory accommodation at that school will
be modernised during the course of 1949.
School canteens have been frequently inspected during the
year, and, whilst some of the buildings are not of the required
standard, conditions generally are satisfactory. The programme
of the Ministry of Education provides for new or modernised
canteen buildings to be provided during the next three years.
