The Infant Mortality Rate for the year is 20.15 per 1.000
live births. 21 infants (including 7 outward transfers) died
during 1948 before reaching their first birthday.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
There was one maternal death in the Borough during 1948.
giving a mortality rate of 0.93 per 1,000 total births.

DEATHS.
The Death Rate for 1948 is 9.9 per 1,000 population. The
total number of deaths recorded was 631, of which 310 were
males and 321 females,
