climbing, hanging and swinging, etc., using their natural strength
of arms and abdominal muscles to stronger effect than previously
possible.
It has been considered advisable to introduce differing types
of fixed apparatus to coincide more closely with the needs of the
individual school, particularly in regard to siting, to the material
to be used and to construction.
The following types are now in use in various parts of the
area covered by the Organiser, and it is hoped to have two of
these types erected in Bromley schools in the very near future.
Outdoor Agility Apparatus. Junior Age Group.
(1) Rural Type.—Designed for installation where rural or
garden surroundings are possible—particularly where a spinney
of trees is available.
The apparatus consists of larch poles and stout ropes, which
are fitted between and from trees of a suitable nature.
This type is only suitable for the smaller sized school.
(2) Climbing Frame.—This type is specially suited to schools
where playground space is restricted and no playing field is
available.
A "block" frame taking roughly 8 ft. of ground space only,
but allowing all the activities previously mentioned, is constructed
of galvanised iron and timber.
Other smaller pieces of apparatus needing little space carbe
added.
(3) Galvanised Metal Structures, suitable for large playgrounds
or playing fields where there is space available and
where numbers are large and the apparatus must be more
durable.
Individual structures to provide the following may be built
up gradually.
(1) Frame to hold four climbing ropes.
(2) Frame to hold somersault bars of varying heights.
(3) Frame to hold one travelling bar.
(4) Balancing bars of varying heights.
Infant Age Group.
(1) Climbing or Scrambling Nets to be fixed over larch pole
goalpost erection in playgrounds and playing fields.
(2) Essex Agility Apparatus may be used both indoors and in
the open air. This type consists of stools, poles, planks, and a
small frame for climbing and swinging.
