FACTORIES ACT, 1937.
The administration of matters under Parts I and VIII of the
Factories Act, 1937, continued to be carried out by the sanitary
inspectors during the year, and Tables X, XI and XII give
statistical details of the inspections made, and nuisances, defects,
and contraventions found and abated.
A total of 232 inspections and reinspections were made
during the year, and 101 nuisances and defects were found, of
which 92 had been remedied by the end of the year.
In addition, 21 inspections were made of outworkers' premises,
all of which were found to be satisfactory, and no
nuisances or defects were found.
SHOPS ACTS, 1912-1936.
It is anticipated that the Shops Acts and the various relevant
Regulations will eventually be consolidated.
Mr. G. R. Woods, the Inspector under the Shops Acts, reports
that the conditions of employment in shops in Bromley are good,

During the year, 96 visits of inspection were made under
the provisions of the Shops Acts, at which 39 nuisances or contraventions
were noted. 53 nuisances (including those outstanding
from 1946) were remedied.
SMOKE ABATEMENT.
Eight inspections and re-inspections were made by the
sanitary inspectors, and two instances of smoke nuisance were
remedied.
VERMINOUS CONDITIONS AND UNCLEANLINESS.
The sanitary inspectors made 132 visits to premises in connection
with the eradication of vermin, dirty conditions and
disinfection. The dirty condition of six premises was remedied,
and 28 houses were disinfested.
With regard to the Council's Housing Estate, the Property
Manager reports that very little action, if any, was required or
taken in respect of bug infestation.
Verminous and unclean conditions of premises are very
closely associated with similar conditions of the person. The
