SERVICES FOR THE AREA.
AMBULANCE SERVICE.
Arrangements have been made whereby a Corporation
service is operated from and by the Bromley and District
Hospital.
The following report on the service for the year 1947 has
been received from Mr. E. H. Hurst, the House Governor of the
Hospital:—
During 1947 there has been a further increase in the
volume of work undertaken by the Ambulance Service.
The total mileage in 1947 was 20,643 miles as compared
with 16,488 in 1946 and 10,481 in 1945.
The total number of cases dealt with was 2,747, as against
2,317 for 1946 and 1,708 for 1945.
On the 4th June, 1947, a seven-seater Ford V.8 sitting car
was attached to the Ambulance Service, and up to the end
of the year 1,739 cases were dealt with by this addition to the
Ambulance Service.
Due to the increased work and due to the addition of the
sitting car, the number of staff has been increased to twelve.
The reciprocal arrangements with Beckenham, Orpington,
Chislehurst and Sidcup during the year worked quite satisfactorily.
The work of the Ambulance Superintendent and his
assistants continues to be carried out in a most efficient and
satisfactory manner.
