BOOT CLUB.
The Chairman reports as follows:—
" The Bromley Schools' Boot Club has continued to operate
sucessfully during the year ended 31st December, 1947, despite
increasing difficulties of supply. Contributions received from
members during the past year amounted to £436 18s. 3d. as
against £408 5s. 7d. in 1946, whilst purchases of footwear
amounted to £441 14s. 3d. nett during 1947 as compared with
£427 17s. 8d. during 1946.
"As will be seen from the above figures, there has been a
slight increase throughout the year of the amount of contributions
and the amount expended by members on the purchase of
footwear, whilst it may also be seen that the fund has realised
a deficit during the past year of £4 16s. Od. This is due to the
fact that two firms on the list of retailers are unable to increase
the rate of discount granted from 5 per cent. to 10 per cent whilst
the rate of bonus granted to all members remains at 10 per cent.
It is not proposed to reduce the rate of bonus at present as the
fund still has a surplus in hand of £58 8s. 4½d. which it is hoped
will enable the rate of bonus to be maintained until such time
as the supply of footwear is easier.
" The work of the Committee and the administration of the
fund has continued uninterrupted throughout the past year and
from information obtained it would appear that the services performed
by the Bromley Schools' Boot Club Committee are still
in as great a demand as ever."
NUTRITIONAL SURVEY.
An investigation into the weight and height of children
prior to the war (1939), and after the war (1946) reveals that
the increase in average weight of boys and girls in the " leaver "
group (13 year olds) was 2¼ lbs. The boys showed an average
increase in height of ¼", while the girls showed an average
decrease of 1/3".

The number of children under survey in 1939 was 421 (193 boys and 228 girls) and in 1946 was 344 (147 boys and 197 girls), and the comparative tables are as follows:—
