Men:
1. Refresher Course in Physical Education for Men Teachers in
Modern Schools held at Princes Plain gymnasium for ten
afternoon pefiods in July.
Modern Dance. Though still in its early stages in our
schools, modern dance is now showing very favourable results
in classes dealing with the youngest to the older children.
Classes of instruction are now to be found in our Secondary,
Grammar, Technical, Modern, Primary and even Infant Departments.
We hope in future to encourage definite correlation between
the development of natural movement and mime, drama, music
and other subjects on the school curriculum.
The first Modern Dance Group for the County of Kent was
inaugurated during the year in Bromley. We hope to continue
the half-day courses that have previously proved so successful
in other branches of physical education.
Training of Part-Time Leaders of Youth Clubs. The
response to suggested courses of training for leaders has been
most disappointing. Arrangements for the following courses
were made during the year and all clubs were notified:—
1. Half-day (Saturday) Course for Recreative Physical Training.
2. Sessional Course in Ballroom Dancing.
3. Ten-weeks Course of National Dancing and Games.
4. Ten Recreative Evenings of differing character.
5. Recreative Physical Training Class to be held in conjunction with
the Diocesan Youth Organiser.
6. Advanced Ballroom Course to be extended to examination
standard.
Many of these did not materialise owing to lack of sufficient
support.
Recreative Evening Classes. As far as possible the needs
of adolescents and adults of the area have received very sympathetic
consideration, resulting in a varied programme of
activities. This includes evening classes arranged in the following
branches of physical training:—
1. Recreative Physical Training, Women and Girls.
2. Recreative Physical Training, Men and Boys.
3. Ballroom Dancing.
4. English Country Dancing.
5. Scottish Dancing.
6. Keep-Fit work.
7. Advanced Gymnastics.
8. Boxing.
9. Swimming.
