Adoption of Children.
The Adoption of Children (Regulation) Act, 1939, came into
operation on 1st June, 1943. Section 7 of the Act is the section
with which Welfare Authorities are concerned. It is now the
duty of any person other than the chilcl's parent or guardian
or the person with whom the child is placed, who participates
in the arrangements for placing of the child to notify in
writing the Welfare Authority of the area concerned. In short,
as far as we are concerned, it would appear to extend the provisions
of the Public Health Act, 1936, as applied to foster
children, to those children under nine years of age who an
placed for the purpose of adoption, or who have no lega
adoption order.
The Health Visitor is called upon to exercise supervision
by visiting and examining the adopted child to ensure its
environmental conditions being satisfactory, and the suitabilitl
of the " adopter."
