Table XV. in the Appendix sets out in detail the
housing statistics for the year 1936.

The Borough Engineer reports that the number of houses for which plans have been approved during the year 1936 is as follows:—

(a) By private enterprise725

In the Annual Report for 1935 I submitted a
preliminary report on the Housing Survey under the
Housing Act. Since then houses overcrowded have been
measured and the inserted Table indicates the true
condition of overcrowding as a result of the measuring.
It will be seen that 216 houses, including sub-tenant
houses, were found to be overcrowded. At the time of
writing (May 31st) 2,700 certificates of permitted numbers
have been issued to the owners, and the numbers entered
in the rent books. Further certificates remain to be
issued in approximately 5,000 instances.

Houses found to be overcrowded by the measurement survey have been visited, and the following Table indicates the condition of overcrowding and the abatement of overcrowding at the end of May, 1937:—
