Maternity Hospital.
The Maternity Hospital admitted 397 patients to
their 19 beds during 1936. The Local Authority has an
agreement with this Hospital for the reservation of four
beds to which maternity cases are admitted under the
provisions of an assisted maternity scheme. Cases eligible
under this scheme must be dealt with through the AnteNatal
service and medically certified as suitable cases for
admission either on the grounds of environmental necessity
or physical necessity, or both.
During 1936 we had occasion to refer with financial
assistance 12 cases under the scheme on the following
grounds, viz.:—
Environment 4
Physical condition 5
Physical and environment 3
In addition 50 cases were referred to other hospitals
for treatment.
Maternity and Nursing Homes.
Details of these institutions appear in the tabulation
on page 31 and under the heading Nursing Homes
Registration Act, 1927, page 29.
Institutional and Convalescent Treatment.
We had occasion to refer 32 infants to hospitals for
sick or ailing children from the welfare centres, and we
are indebted to the local as well as the London hospitals
who readily accept cases for treatment, or advice.
Puerperal Fever and Puerperal Pyrexia.
The Local Authority has an arrangement with Queen
Charlotte's Maternity Hospital, Isolation Block, Ravenscourt
Square, Hammersmith, to take cases arising in
Bromley. Cases are conveyed by ambulance by arrangement
with the London Ambulance Service of the London
County Council.
No cases were treated under the scheme during 1936.
