Death Rate of Infants under 1 year of age:—

Social Conditions.
Building operations have proceeded steadily throughout
the year. Large estates are fast disappearing and neat
roads with small residential property are taking their
place. The Borough Surveyor reports the erection of 741
houses during 1936.
Traffic congestion through the main roads of the town
has, through the widening of High Street and Hayes Lane,
been considerably alleviated. The potentialities of
Bromley as a shopping centre for the surrounding small
towns and villages have been readily appreciated by the
large shop builder, whose activities in recent years are
apparent in the main shopping streets of the town. The
inevitable tendency for business premises to extend in a
southerly direction along the main road is a natural consequence
of street widening and of the building developments
taking place in the added area and in the southern
portion of the Borough.

to the restrictions embodied in the Town Planning Scheme
