Ultra Violet Ray Clinic.
This clinic is held in conjunction with the Orthopaedic
and Massage Clinic, and is held twice weekly. As an
adjunct to treatment one finds this special provision of
great value, especially in the convalescence of influenza and
debility cases during the winter months.
There were 1,825 attendances during the year, and at
times a greater demand than we were able to fulfil.
The following short summary indicates the type of case
referred for ultra violet ray and the general results of such
treatment:
Of the total number treated in 1936 there were 147
new cases. These consisted of :—
General Debility, 50. Of these12 did not attend
.regularly, but the remainder showed great improvement
in general health, increase of weight, better appetite and
improved muscle tone.
Impetigo, 14. These all showed a good reaction to
sunlight except one very severe case which was transferred
to hospital.
Infant Welfare Cases, 24. These showed marked
improvement in general physique and gained weight
steadily after a few applications.
Chilblains, 5. All these cases improved and showed
o better circulation.
Asthma, 5. On the whole there was apparent
improvement in these cases. One parent reported that the
child had not had an attack of asthma for over six months,
although previously the attacks were frequent.
Alopecia, 2. One showed improvement and new hair
began to grow after six weeks' treatment. The other did
not attend regularly.
Coeliac Disease, 1. General health improved and was
reported to be much better since having sunlight.
