Borough of Bromley.
Report of the Medical Officer of Health
for the Year 1934.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors.
Mr. Mayor, Madam and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the Annual Report on the Health of
the Borough of Bromley during the year 1934. The
general arrangement of the Report is in accordance with
that of previous years and follows the requirements laid
down in Circular 1417 of the Ministry of Health.
The report covers the matters affecting the area of
Bromley as extended by the Kent Review Order, 1934,
whereby on April 1st, 1934, the area of Bromley was
extended by provisional order to include portions of the
urban districts of Beckenham and Chislehurst, and
portions of the rural district of Bromley, comprising parts
of the parishes of Farnborough, Hayes, Keston and West
Wickham.
The various sections of the report indicate the extent
of social services given by the Local Authority and the
part they play in the civic government of the Borough.
It is noteworthy that as the years pass there is an
increasing desire on the part of the burgesses to use these
services, a fact which is also true in other areas throughout
the country; co-incident with this is the extension of
Public Services and increasing State control in matters
affecting the welfare of the people as a whole.
The following is a list of Acts, Orders, Circulars,
Memoranda, etc., which came into operation, or had some
bearing on the work of the Public Health Department,
during 1934:—
Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
Sheep Scab (Amendment) Order, 1934.
Ministry of Health Circular 1370 on Nutrition.
Children and Young Persons Act, 1933, Employment of Children
Bye-laws.
