to school, left district, or are irregular attendants, in order
to present as truly as possible the real work of
the centres. The average attendance of babies for each
centre works out at 42—the individual centres show the
average attendances for 1934 as follows:—
Plaistow 50 Burnt Ash 32
Widmore 42 Bromley Common 50
Shortlands 38 Hayes and Keston 37
There were 20G medical sessions held at which a total
of 2,284 medical consultations were given—an average of
11 per session. The total number of weighings made
during the year was 12,432, and in this work, as well as
in other social aspects of the work of the centres, the
Voluntary Workers associated with the welfare centres
give much valuable assistance.
Milk in Necessitous Cases.
During 1934 the number of individual cases granted
assisted milk supply was 68. A total of 5,273 pints of
milk being distributed at an approximate cost of £70.

Institutional and Convalescent Treatment.
The Department found it necessary during 1934 to
refer 21 children under five years of age to institutions for
sick or ailing children, and three cases were sent through
the good offices of voluntary associations to convalescent
homes, including one case where the mother and her baby
received convalescent treatment.
