The Ante-Natal Clinic is held on the first and third
Thursday of each month at the School Clinic, Station Road,
and at the Maternity Hospital on the fourth Thursday of
each month.
The above figures indicate a greater use of the antenatal
services, but they by no means fulfil a complete
ante-natal service. Only 18.6 per cent. of total notified
births attended the ante-natal clinics, and while there is
this complacence one must expect a high stillbirth rate and
high maternal mortality rate. A far too large proportion
of mothers fail to seek skilled ante-natal advice, and
others there are who are too casual in ante-natal hygiene.
Much can still be done to prevent mortality.
