Population.
The mid-year population figure given by the
Registrar General is 53,890, and in the previous mid-year
(1933) the figure given was 48,270. Whilst the former
figure is below my own estimate, which is based on the
number of inhabited houses and the average number of
persons per house, it is the figure which must be accepted
for statistical purposes, but, it is to be noted that
for use with the composite statistics supplied by the
Registrar General, a working population figure is also
supplied, which has been modified to take account of the
fact that the records do not wholly relate to the entire
year, viz., 52,762.
At the end of 1934 a census of dwelling houses was
compiled from information supplied by various departments
in order to obtain some indication of the population
of the Borough as extended under the Kent Review Order,
