Medical Inspection.
Medical inspections of school children are carried out
at the schools and at the School Clinic. Tables I. and
II. in the Appendix give details of these inspections.
Of the 1,453 children examined at routine medical
inspections, 23.7 per cent, showed evidence of defects
requiring treatment. Details of the defects are shown in
Table II. The 1,817 individual children who attended
the medical clinic were found to have 3,802 scheduled
defects (see Table Ila.).
Treatment.
Children found with defects are referred for treatment
to the various clinics, hospitals or their own doctors. The
education Committee provides treatment clinics for eyes,
ear, nose and throat, orthopaedic, sunlight and minor
ailments. All cases requiring domiciliary treatment are
referred to their own doctor. Treatment in convalescent
home, extra nourishment and assistance to the necessitous
patient is given by the Bromley Children's Care
Committee, w hose annual report is included later in this
report. The Care Committee also provide voluntary
workers at the various clinics who give invaluable help
in the smooth working of the service.
Diseases of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.
Four per cent, of the children examined at routine

adenoids, and were referred to the Specialist for direction
on treatment. An additional 4 per cent, were kept under
special observation. Eighteen per cent, of those children
attending medical clinic were referred to the Specialist,
and a further 17 per cent, kept under observation. A
