The following particulars have been extracted from
the records kept with reference to foster-children and
foster-parents:—
(a) No. of persons receiving children for
reward at the end of the year 1933 40
(b) No. of children on the register 51
(c) No. of Infant Life Protection Visitors
(These duties are carried out by the
health visitors) 5
Several instances of failure to give the required notice
of reception or removal were dealt with informally, as
such cases proved on enquiry not to be flagrant
contraventions. Cancellation of sanction to keep one
boarded-out child in one case was imposed owing to the
foster-mother permitting increase in the number of child
inhabitants in her home and failure to obtain adequate
medical treatment for the child under her care.
Careful investigation into the home circumstances and
character of prospective foster-mothers is producing
goodwill and co-operation between the administering
authority and the foster-parents, and thus the Act works
smoothly and the supply of suitable foster-mothers is
maintained.
