in October. His interest, however, in the staff and in the work
of the Council still continues.
A further blow to the Department was the death within a few
days of his retirement of the Chief Public Health Inspector
Mr. McCauley. Mr. McCauley held a very special place in the
respect and affection of all members of the staff and of a large
section of the public as well.
On Dr. Harvey's retirement Dr. Mary Douglas was appointed
as my Deputy and I should like to thank her warmly for the generous
help she has given me. My grateful thanks are due also to the
Chief Public Health Inspector, Mr, James, to Mr. Ingram and indeed
to every member of the Health Department. I feel I must also
acknowledge with thanks the very friendly co-operation I have
received from the other Chief Officers.
In conclusion, I would once again thank the Council, particularly
the Chairmen and members of the Health & Cleansing and
Staff Committees for their unfailing interest and support.
I am, Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
Janet R. Campbell,
Medical Officer of Health,
