completely disregarded "working hours" in this part of his duty.
This is a side of our work which is building up each year in
importance and urgency.
Dr. Harvey's combined appointment of Borough Medical Officer
of Health and County Area Medical Officer has ensured over the
years close integration of these two functions and similarly the
very close and friendly co-operation between the two categories
of staff should prove a great asset towards the smooth change
over to the new Borough.
In conclusion, I owe a debt of gratitude to the members of
the Health and Cleansing Committee and would express to them my
sincere thanks for their support and kindness - an expression in
which I know Dr. Harvey would wish to be associated.
I find it difficult to express fully my appreciation of the
loyality and support which I have received from Mr. McCauley, and,
indeed, every member of the staff of the Public Health Department.
Without this, my task in suddenly taking over Dr. Harvey's work
would have been difficult indeed.
I am, Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
J. R. CAMPBELL,
Deputy Medical Officer of Health.
