INQUESTS
Sixteen inquests were held following the deaths of Wood
Green residents during 1962. A further 99 post mortem examinations
were carried out without an inquest, 59 of these in the Prince
of Wales Hospital which, by arrangement with the Wood Green Borough
Council, provides mortuary services.
MATERNAL MORTALITY
No cases of maternal mortality were reported.
INFANT MORTALITY
There were 21 deaths of infants under one year of age, which
gives an infant death rate of 29.5 per 1,000 live births, as compared
with 17 deaths and a rate of 26. 8 in the preceding year.
Of the 21 infants who died in Wood Green during 1962, 15 did
not survive beyond one month and 14 died in the first week 9 in
fact died in the first day. These very early deaths are the
hardest of all to prevent.
Every infant death continues to be carefully scrutinised.
STILL-BIRTHS
Twenty-three still-births, 21 legitimate and 2 illegitimate
were accredited to the Borough for 1962. This is equal to a death
rate of 31.2 per 1,000 births, the corresponding figures for 1961
being 12 still-births with a rate of 17.3.
