Housing Applications
The task of visiting housing applicants and the preparation
of reports on their living conditions has been discontinued, with

Edith Road Proposed Clearance Area. The eleven houses in this
road were inspected in detail during the year. Eight of them were
found to be unfit for human habitation and could not be made fit
at a reasonable cost and the best means of dealing with them is
by demolition. I have been informed that a Public Enquiry is to
be held on the 4th January 1959 when objections to the Compulsory
Purchase Order made by the Council will be heard by an Inspector
from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
The demolition of the properties in Phase I of the Council's
Slum Clearance Scheme of the Winkfield Road/Acacia Road/Douglas

Inspections of the properties in Phase II of this Scheme
have been completed and a Compulsory Purchase Order made by the
Council.
